MARS (THE RED PLANET)
Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun and is the second smallest planet in the solar system. Named after the Roman god of war, Mars is also often described as the “Red Planet” due to its reddish appearance. Mars is a terrestrial planet with a thin atmosphere composed primarily of carbon dioxide.
Mass and seize of the planet compared to Earth
Mars and Earth are quiet different in terms of size and mass. With a mean radius of 6371 km and a mass of 5.97×1024 kg, Earth is the fifth largest and fifth most-massive planet in the Solar System, and the largest of the terrestrial planets. Mars, meanwhile, mars has a radius of approximately 3,396 km at its equator (3,376 km at its polar regions), which is the equivalent of roughly 0.53 Earths. However, it’s mass is just 6.4185 x 10²³ kg, which is around 15% that of Earth’s.
How long it takes mars to orbit the sun
Mars revolves or orbits around the Sun once every 1.88 Earth years, or once every 686.93 Earth days. Mars travels at an average speed of 53,979 miles per hour or 86,871 kilometers per hour in its orbit around the Sun.
How long it takes mars to rotate once
We call the rotational period of Earth a "day". Mars takes just a little longer to rotate, at 24 hours, 37 minutes. The Moon is much slower than either Earth or Mars. It takes over 655 hours for the Moon to turn just once on its axis--that's more than 27 days!
The atmosphere of Mars is less than 1% of Earth's, so it does not protect the planet from the Sun's radiation nor does it do much to retain heat at the surface. It consists of 95% carbon dioxide, 3% nitrogen, 1.6% argon, and the remainder is trace amounts of oxygen, water vapor, and other gases.
Mars coldest and hottest temp.
In winter, near the poles temperatures can get down to minus 195 degrees F (minus 125 degrees C). A summer day on Mars may get up to 70 degrees F (20 degrees C) near the equator, but at night the temperature can plummet to about minus 100 degrees F (minus 73 C).
Phobos- Phobos is the innermost and larger of the two natural satellites of Mars, the other being Deimos. Both moons were discovered in 1877 by American astronomer,
Deimos- Deimos is the smaller and outer of the two natural satellites of the planet Mars, the other being Phobos. Deimos has a mean radius of 6.2 km and takes 30.3 hours to orbit Mars.
Why i chose the planet
I chose mars cause mars cause, mars we can possibly live on one day with a the studies going on we can probably line on mars and i want to be a marshan
Space exploration on Mars
NASA's current mission to send an astronaut to Mars is driven by development of the Orion crew exploration vehicle. The capsule spacecraft is being designed to take humans back to the moon by 2020. In later years, by rendezvous with Mars-bound vehicles assembled in orbit, it may take the first humans to the Red Planet.
