History of Croquet 

Croquet was invented on the British isles in the 19th century. It suffered in the 1890's when the Boston clergy spoke against the drinking, gambling, and licentious behavior associated with Croquet. Today, Croquet is played all over the world.  In the movie " Alice in Wonderland", Croquet was also played. 

How to play

Players hit the balls with a mallet through 6 hoops in the right sequence in each direction. You finish by hitting your ball(s) against the center peg. The player that completes the course first with both balls wins.

Players

There is usually played with 2 to 4 players. The game provides fun and exercise for the players. Many people of all ages can play Croquet. 

Length of game

Usually 100 feet long and 50 feet wide. 

Keeping score

The players don't keep score. The rule is whoever completes the course with both balls wins. 


Tactics

There are many tactics that experienced players use. There are checklists for the players to remember some tactics. The most common tactic is helping your partner. 

Penalties

There are many penalties in Croquet. There are three penalties in Croquet: 1, all balls are returned to the area where the shot began; 2, all balls remain where they are and the turn ends; and 3, striker ball and any other stationary ball that are hit by the striker are replaced. 

Equipment

To play Croquet, you need the wickets and stakes, the balls, and the mallets. The wickets are the hoops that the balls go through when they are hit. The balls are arranged in different colors for the teams. The mallets are used to hit the balls through the wickets.

In Croquet, there are clubs and tournaments. 

Changed

The game of croquet has changed. It is no longer suffering from drinkers and gamblers.
