What is Down Syndrome 

Down Sydrome is also called Trisomy 21, it is a condition in which a person is born with an extra chromosome. 

Cause of Down Sydrome

The causes of down sydrome is Trisomy 21, and thats a condition where individuals have 47 chromosomes in each cell instead of 46. This is the most common form of Down syndrome.

Facts of Down Syndrome 

  • Each year, about 6,000 babies are born with down syndrome.
  • Average life expectancy for a person with down syndrome is nearly 60 years old.
  • Women and men with Down Syndrome can be fertile. They do need to be careful and sensitive advice about having children. 


  • Screening test is a way to find out if your child has Down syndrome.
  • Blood test that can measure levels of a certain pregnancy hormone.


Treatments consists of therapy and self care.

  • Type of therapy is speech therapy, support group, occupational therapy, and physical therapy.
  • Self Care is physical exercise and special education.

Ted Kremer

Cheryl and Dave Kremer gave birth to their son, Ted, thirty years ago. Ted was born with Down syndrome, and the doctors told his parents that he wouldn’t have a normal life. They said that Ted may never walk or talk. His parents were determined to prove that theory wrong, and they raised him to be a strong, independent, respectful and intelligent young man. He captured the hearts of Cincinnati Reds fans and continues to inspire almost everyone. He got to be a bat boy for the Cincinnati Reds.
