The vikings came from Norway
Sweden and Denmark. These were countries surrounded by sea and covered in forests.
They lived near the coast and were fishermen, farmers and craftsmen.
Vikings warrios crossed the seas in their longships to Britain and the Mediterranean. They went up rivers into Russia and to far away Iceland.
They carried out raids for money, treasure and slaves. They also went looking for new places.
To settle , Leif Eriksson visited North America around 1000 and almost 500 years before Columbus made his journeys. Eriksson spent a winter there returning to Iceland . He never sailed to America again . Other Vikings explorers visited North America Leif Eriksson was the son of Erik the Red, the great Nordic explorer and warrior.
