Description of Job

  • Accountants provide financial information for whomever needs it by evaluating and calculating data. Accountants do things such as documenting and recommending financial transactions, summarizing financial statuses, and completing data base backups.

School with the education you need

Standard course of study

  • Most people (even though not required) complete their undergraduate and get a bachelor's in accounting or a math related major. This requires four years of college. 
  • If you're trying to get a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree in Accounting you will need to complete a total of 120 hours. 42 are Liberal Studies hours, 36 Business Core, 21 major hours, and 21-27 general elective hours. This all depends on the Liberal Studies classes completed.
  • Liberal Studies classes examples: Writing, Mathematics, Wellness,  Social Sciences, etc.
  • Required Business Core classes examples: Financial Accounting, Applied Statistics, and Strategic Management.

  • After you graduate with a major in Accounting you are eligible to take the CPA exam. It is required for all four parts of the exam to be passed.
  • After you complete and pass the CPA you can apply for internships to get experience before getting a job

Cost of Education

  • The total cost for an in-state, full-time, residential undergraduate student is $8,800.63 per semester. This totals to $70,405.04 for the full four years. This includes tuition and fees, residence hall, meal plan, and residential tech fee.

Scholarships at university

  • Crum Scholarship Fund provides a scholarship (amount not specified) that supports undergraduates with a major in Math or English.
  • George A. Milton Scholarship provides support to undergraduates who are majoring in math as well. Applicant is required to score a 550 on the math portion of the SAT and a B in all math classes previously taken in high school.

Scholarships in general

  • C.H. Necessary, Jr., Scholarship provides a $500 scholarship to a deserving graduate who has excelled as an athlete and as a student.
  • NC Society of Accountants offers a $600 scholarship for a graduate who wishes to pursue a career in Accounting.
