No Kid Hungry

by: Emma Breitbach

The Problem

- More than 46 million Americans live below the poverty line.

- The U.S has one of the highest poverty rates in the world.

- 1 in 5 children live in poverty.

- Half of kids with single moms live in poverty.

- Last year 21 million kids had reduced or free lunches in the United States.

The Solution

- Donate money for food to Hunger Relief Organizations.

- Volunteer at a food drive to pack meals.

-Start a Hunger Relief Organization to collect donations for your community.

- Start a nutrition club at schools to help feed children when they are not at home.

- Donate to No Kid Hungry.

Take Action

13.1 million children lived in food-insecure households in 2015. To take action you can donate to organizations like Feeding America. Feeding America uses donated money to buy food for people who can't afford to buy it on their own, or you can donate your own food. The donated food goes to a meal packing event, and get sent somewhere in the U.S.. There are twelve million children estimated to be served by Feeding America.

Heather's Story

Heather is a single mom who struggles to provide food for her three children. Last summer her local church started serving meals to families like hers. Before her church served meals her and other families in her community they went hungry. But, over the summer The Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance, inspired by No Kid Hungry, has been working to stop the hunger. Thanks to all the volunteers at the Main Street Baptist Church, many families like Heather's know where their next meal will come from.
