Digitalization has led music to no longer require a separate physical player or recording. As technology converge, phones now serve as most people's music player. There is now no need for a company to issue CDs or other materials, saving economic cost for the company. Mentioned earlier, online music stores make it more accessible for people to buy directly from their home. This convenience expands to new artists who can sell their music without having to pay an additional cost of packaging.
Digitalization of music has reflected digital characteristic of death of distance, economic scale, and algorithmificication. These characteristics are interrelated. For example, economic scale has impacted death of distance in various ways such as allowing cheaper music and convenience through digital means as well as the spread of algorithmification being related to the lack of distance between countries and exchanging ideas. Music is a multi-million dollar industry but it wouldn't be what it is today without digitalization.
