  • Derive meaning from informational texts in various formats


Objectives: 

  • Choose a book of interest from the easy and picture book sections with guidance
  • Use libraries, library staff, and library resources 
  • Broaden awareness of the works of various authors and illustrators




1st Grade

Access information efficiently and effectively to inquire, think critically, and gain knowledge

• Recognize the need for information

• Formulate questions based on information needs

• Identify various potential sources of information

• Develop and use successful strategies for locating information

• Seek information from diverse sources


Objectives:   

  • Identify the difference between fiction and nonfiction
  • Locate picture books and easy books on the shelves
  • Locate groups of nonfiction on the shelves
  • May use library catalog to locate boks

Kindergarten

Objectives:  

  • Choose a book of interest from a provided assortment
  • Engage with the work of various authors and illustrators
  • Begin to use print and nonprint materials
  • Appreciate reading for pleasure, for learning, and for finding answers

  • Use libraries, library staff, and library resources





Kindergarten

AASL Standard 1

Access information efficiently and effectively to inquire, think critically, and gain knowledge.


Objectives:

  • Learn where picture books and easy books are located in the library
  • Ask where to find a book to read













  1. Students will watch book trailers, noting titles of books they may want to check out. 
  2. Using proper library manners and procedures, students will locate and check out one book. 
  3. Students will sit quietly and read.
