Jainism Meditation

The Namokar Mantra

I bow to the Arihants, the Conquerors.

I bow to the Siddhas.

I bow to the Acharyas.

I bow to the Updhyays.

I bow to all the Sages of the World

This five-fold salutation completely destroys all the sins.

And, of all auspicious mantras, it is indeed the foremost auspicious one.

Why?

Arihant - a soul who has conquered inner passions such as attachment, anger, pride and greed.

Siddha - liberated souls

Acharya - the highest leader of a Jain order

Upadhyay - the second highest leader of a Jain ascetic order

This meditation spoke out to me because it doesn't focus on a person, but on the good qualities of gods, teachers, and saints. In this meditation it seems as though they are humbling themselves and giving respect to people they believe are further along spiritually than themselves.

Amen
