Sacagawea was born in 1788 in Lemhi River Valley. She grew near the Rocky Moutains in land that is today in the state of Idaho.
She was part of the shoshone tribe where her dad was the chief. Her trib lived in teepees and moved around during the year to gather food and hunt bison.
They had been sent by President Thomas Jefferson to explorer the Louisisana Purchase and the lands to the west.
Meeting Lewies and Clarkark .In 1804,an expedition led by Captains Meriwether Lewies and WilliamClark arrived near to where sacagawea lived.
They built a fort there called fort mandan and stayed for winter.
Lewis and Clark were looking for guides to help them though the land to the west .
She was Famous for Acting as guide and imerpreter for Lewis and Clark .
