Golf in Namibia

By: Julia Perras

The sport of golf originated in Scotland in the 15th century and spread to Namibia in 1990. Golf is played on a course where you ether can play 9-18 holes or round of golf.  You also use 1-14 clubs. The General Rules of Golf are:

1. Play the ball wherever it lies unless it is in the water.

2. All golfers must avoid distracting other players.

3. Golf carts should never be used to annoy and or distract other players.  In a game of golf there is no length of the game. You play as fast or as slow as you want. It depends on your pace.  In the game of golf you want to have the least amount of points possible. You try to get your ball in the hole in the least amount of strokes.  Depending on where you are playing and what number par it is the field dimensions change. They can range from 100 yards -1,310 yards.

Some basic strategies of golf are to hit your tee shots down the middle or the fairway, before you hit the ball concentrate and clear your mind.  These strategies will help you be a better player. When you get a penalty in golf you get an additional stroke added to your scorecard. the way you get a penalty in golf is if you hit your ball into the water, you loss the hole or relief from hazard.  When you play golf the only equipment you use is golf clubs, golf ball, tees and a golf bag. You use the golf clubs to hit the ball, you use the ball as you target, the tees the help you set up to hit the ball, and the golf bag to hold your clubs.

In the game of golf there are many leagues.  The professional league of golf is called PGA. There are other leagues such as the amateur league.  The game of golf has many compositions like the Masters,  US Open, the Open, and The USPGA Championship. The sport of golf has changed over many year not by only its fans but by its equipment. The equipment have now is like nothing we had back then. Now we have things like special binoculars that tel you how far away the ball is and back then you had to guess how far away the ball was.
