In the game of fencing there are two players. They have masks, a foil (sword), and protection gear to fight.
Scoring in fencing is when one of the two people touch the other person with their foil in the torso, back, groin, or neck.
The field dimensions in fencing is a mat. A long horizontal mat that is 5-7 feet wide and 46 feet long.
Fencing originated from Spain in the 1400's.
The timing of the game is 3 minutes or 8 touches in the saber. A 1 minute break occurs in between the 3 minutes and this go's on for 9 minutes or 15 touches and if this happens the scores you have are the final scores.
The way the sport of fencing is played is basically you trying to score 15 points on your opponent before they do the same to you.
If a player steps beyond the boundary of the mat there is a 1 meter or 3 feet advantage for the other persons restart. Also a foul is when someone strikes with both hands.
One way fencing has changed is that the foil used to be a sword which was more dangerous. In the 17th century lighter weapons were invented and in 1780 the mask was created. The sport was dangerous when it first started and now we have more safety gear and lighter weapons to make it easier and safer.
Fencing was and still is in the Olympic Games. It was first in the Olympic's in 1896. Fencing is international and people from different countries can duel each other. It is professional and pro's can play in the Olympic's. Amateur's do play the game and in different places there are fencing amateur clubs and other things. The fencing world cup is an international way to be in fencing.
The basic strategy of fencing is hit the person without being hit yourself. Basically stay as far away from your opponent, but you can still reach them but they cant reach you.
