Facts About Koalas

  • They eat eucalyptus leaves
  • They inhabit the forests of eastern Australia
  • They are territorial animals
  • They define their territories by scratching trees
  • While tucked in their nooks, Koalas may sleep 18 to 20 hours per day. Koalas sleep during the day making them nocturnal animals. 


  • A koala pregnancy only lasts 35 days
  • Koalas do not drink much water, they get water from the leaves they consume.

  • Koalas eat a lot for their size, about 1 kg of leaves per day. 

  •  A newborn Koala is the size of bean and is blind and hairless

  • Koalas are excellent swimmers, they have to cross rivers to escape flooding
