Canoeing in Germany

The sport Canoeing originated in North America by Native Americans in 1750. Today it is pretty popular in Germany and other pleases around the world. Germany was the the birth place for Olympic Canoeing.

People Involved

When you canoe there is usually only 2-4 people in a canoe at a time.

A Olympic canoeing race is about 500-1000 meters long so in feet it is about 1640.42 feet long.

To do a 500 meter race it take from 1 hour 45 minutes or 1 hour and 35 minutes down to 1 hour and 29 minutes.

Scoring & Tactics

Scoring canoeing is pretty easy. If the athletes start to soon they get a warning if the do it a second time they get disqualified from that event. To tell if someone won it is the person who came across the finish line first.

Some basic strategy (tactics) of Canoeing are...

1.) Keep your paddle on one side

2.) Stay in the relative slack water within 25 feet of shore

3.) Tacking seemed to improve progress

4.) Using a thumbs down type forward stroke certainly get rid of the times to transfer the blade to the opposite side of the board so you could propel more and not loose speed during switching sides.
