Bots have been around for a long time.
A bot, at its most basic, is a piece of software that performs an automated task, be it finding an awesome GIF, ordering toilet paper, or downloading a file.

Platforms give the opportunities to build upon existing UI.
The bot platform ecosystem
The next generation of bots will act more like personal assistants, doing everything from handling your Amazon returns to booking flights and ordering your lunch.
As bots increase in their capabilities, we’ll start to use apps less.
"Considering that nearly half of U.S. smartphone users download zero apps per month, the situation seems dire for app makers."
"If brands and companies seize the opportunity to meet people where they are in their own technological evolution, they’ll be rewarded with relationships that endure."
- Chris Messina
How can I do a bot?
It's about APIs
Bot interaction is still under development.
But it is getting better every day
Bots are being use for a number of tasks that were previously done by humans.
- Customer service
- Order placement
- Travel arrangements
- Content curation
- And more!
Will human to human interaction disappear over the internet?
The state of natural language processing means they can’t even understand what we are asking them, nevermind interpret how we feel by reading between the lines.
Sometimes we don’t want to talk to a human – we just want a quick answer to a simple question. For example, bots can deal with all the repetitive questions sent to customer support teams, which frees up support staff to answer much higher value queries.
Pretending that bots are humans is impersonal.
We need to find the perfect balance between computer and human interaction. Making bots a tool to augment conversations between humans, and discriminating between humans and bots.
