Aswan High Dam


Aswan High Dam, Rock fill dam across the Nile River, at Aswan, Egypt, finished in 1970 at a cost of about 1 billion. The Aswan Dam has enormous benefits for the economy of Egypt. The first time in history the annual flood can be controlled by man. The dam gathers the flood water and releases when needed to maximize the utility on irrigated land. Also to gather a lot of electric power.



The Aswan High Dam also have several negative affects to. Chief in which is a gradual decrease in the fertility and therefore the productivity of Egypt's riverside agricultural lands. This is because of the dams complete control of the Niles flood. Most of the flood and its load of fertilizer slit is now gather in reservoirs or canals. Egypt annual application of about 1 million tons of artificial fertilizer is an poor substitute of the 40 million tons of slit formerly deposit by the Nile flood

The Erie Canal was built in 1817 and 1825, the original was traversed 363 miles from Albany to Buffalo. The canal put New York on the maps as an empire state. A direct hit from Mathew could leave massive destruction. Palm beach residents clear many grocery stores preparing for the storm
