In a biathlon individual race: The biathlete shoots four times at any shooting range, in an order of prone to standing to prone, and if the athlete misses, they add a fixed penalty time to the skiing of the biathlete. In the individual race only one athlete races at a time. The length of a biathlon ranges from 6 to 20 kilometers. Depending on the event in a biathlon, the strategy differs. Some of the equipment used in biathlon are boots, an arm sling, a magazine, a fore sight, a harness, a rear sight, ski poles, skis and wax, a ski suit, and a small bore rifle. Biathlon originated in the late 1700s, and sense then it had added penalty loops and a sprint event.
