Machu Picchu is discovered

Machu Picchu is believed to have

 been a royal estate or sacred

 religious site for Inca leaders.

Machu Picchu was re-discovered by 

Hiram Bingham in 1911. It is made up 

of 150 buildings consisting of bathrooms,

houses, temples and sanctuaries.(staff 2016)

Mona Lisa tragedy

August 21, 1911 the Mona Lisa 

was stolen and recovered in 1913.

The Mona Lisa received more 

recognition after it was stolen than

it had while it was displayed.


US Airmail

On May 15, 1918, the United States officially 

established airmail service 

using Army aircraft and pilots.

The Post Office Department first flight 

took off from College Park, Maryland, 

on August 12, 1918.

Poison Gas Attack

  • Chlorine gas destroyed the respiratory organs of its victim
  • led to a slow death
