Wrestling is one of the oldest forms of combat. wrestling started up in Ancient Greece but then spread through everywhere in the world over time. The sport originated in ancient Egypt about 5000 years ago.The way wrestling works has a few rules, One is scoring. Pin or fall: Victory; end of match. warning; disqualification on the fifth stalling violation.
Takedown: 2 points.Escape: 1 point.Reversal: 2 points
Near fall: 2 points if you hold your opponent for two seconds; 3 points if you hold your opponent for five seconds or more.
Illegal hold: 1 point for your opponent.
Unsportsmanlike conduct: 1 point for your opponent.
Unnecessary roughness: 1 point for your opponent.
Stalling: 1 point for your opponent after you receive one warning; disqualification on the fifth stalling violation.
The are two people that are included in the match. The time of the matches are (for pee-wee wrestling) 1-1:30 minutes and for modified and varsity wrestling is 2 minutes. If there is overtime the clock goes down to 1 minute and after that its 30 seconds. (2 periods of 30 seconds if needed after)
The dimensions of a mat is a diameter of a large circle of 28' diameter 32' diameter and an inner circle that has a 10' diameter to a 14' diameter. The mat itself is 42' x 42'. There is also basic moves that you need to know before wrestling, like illegal moves to avoid and not stalling with many more. There is also major penalties you have to avoid. One of them is unnecessary roughness more than once and unsportsmanlike conduct that can cost you points, even the match.
The equipment you have to wear is you have to have head gear unless your in the pee-wee division, you have to wear a singlet and wrestling shoes.
There are a few leagues that are in wrestling. They are Pee-wee, Modified, Varsity, NCAA, Nationals, And in the Olympics.
Wrestling has changed in a few ways one of them is clothing, one is moves, and another is weight divisions.
