Polo is played with two teams with four players each. The players are designated to “attack” and to “defend” their goals. While doing this they have to ride a horse and use a mallet to hit the ball into the opposing goal.

To score during the game you have to hit the ball into the opposite goal from yours, this counts as one point. Trying to do that you are timed to a one to one half hours, which is divided into six time periods, called Chukkers.

Some of the basic strategies of polo is to be able to ride a horse, to turn the ball, dribble the ball, know how to use a mallet, and to know the basic rules.


Some major penalties are when there is dangerous horse riding and use of the mallet. There's a lots of equipment for polo. They are having a team jersey, polo spurts, polo whip, a ball, boots, helmet, gloves, knee guards, and long wooden mallets.

Polo may not seems as popular as other sports, but it plays in many leagues. For example its professional, amateur, cup games, international competition, and plays in the Olympic Games. This sport has changed over the years. It use to have five players and the offside rules were different.
